Typically, at the end of every day on building sites, most ‘wet trade’ contractors wash out their cement mixers and tools into their wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow is then scrubbed and the resulting 20 – 40L of slurry is usually deposited nearby and the barrow hosed out ready for the next day. This slurry often flows into groundwater or onto the street and subsequently down a stormwater drain. It all too often leaves an unsightly mess in gardens or lawns or on our pavements, roads and gutters and can result in large financial penalties for the site manager, usually the builder.

Sydney Builder, Angus Hudson, with the help of People&Things™, has created a simple and easy solution to this problem. The all new patented Australian innovation, SLURRYTUB, is a heavy-duty recyclable plastic tub, lined with a biodegradable cellulose paper filter that filters and separates the cement slurry. The tradesperson simply washes their wheelbarrow or tools into the tub, and the filter catches harmful sediment while allowing cleared water to drain out into washout areas or be recycled on the job. The tub even holds most wheelbarrows upright hands free for washing, saving tradies precious time.

By making compliance easier and more effective, SLURRYTUB will significantly reduce the common practice of flaunting environmental regulations. We believe all regulatory guidelines should include common sense ‘best practice’ solutions like SLURRYTUB, which has been developed by tradespeople, for tradespeople – to improve the environmental performance of building sites and overall stormwater quality.

SLURRYTUB has received significant funding support from Beckon Capital and was awarded an Environmental Performance – Innovation Grant from the Council of the City of Sydney. We were also recently certified by GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia).

People&Things™ is a full service product development agency dedicated to making sustainable products and startups easier.
